Our History
At the age of thirteen. Clarence Levi Flowers. leaves his homeland of Jamaica to seek employment in Grand Cayman. Over the years he is inspired to follow his dream of becoming an entrepreneur.
Clarence volunteers for WWII by joining the Trinidad Royal Navy Reserves, hunting German submarines that were escaping to the Caribbean. After three years, he returns from the military with enough savings to launch his first business with the purchase of a Bedford truck. From the dawn of aviation in Grand Cayman, Clarence begins ferrying passengers and cargo from sea planes in the North Sound. He embodies the principles of honestly, hard work and diversification as he converts the Bedford pick-up bed to offer land transportation to the outer districts of the island.
As the Cayman Islands prepares for tourism, Clarence pioneers a service for consistent, drinkable water by catching fresh rain in cisterns and distributing it through Flowers Water Transport. A year later, Clarence proposes to his South Sound sweetheart, Miss Jen Hinds. As a gesture of love, he vows to build her "the toughest house on the rock". Clarence teases a Government-owned block machine that was used only for commercial properties and produced 60 units a day, all by hand. Soon, other locals hire Clarence to manufacture concrete blocks for their homes. As Owen Roberts International Airport welcomes the first airline tourists, Clarence and Jen expand the business to include baggage handling, general aviation services and eventually, passenger screening through Flowers Air Dispatch Service (FADS).
With their three children, Frank, Richard and Clarence Bradley, the family continues to flourish as C. L. Flowers & Sons Ltd. upgrades their block operation with equipment that can output over 2000 units per day. From this, Grand Cayman adopts the highest building standards in the Caribbean, a distinction which continues to this day.
Clarence joins a group of Caymanian investors who establish the first locally owned bank, Cayman National (CNC KY) and the Cayman Water Company (CWCO) to pipe drinking water to hotels on Seven Mile Beach. Flowers Bottled Water begins delivering 5-gallon bottles to corporate and residential customers, as newlyweds Richard and Sandra Flowers take the reins. C.L. Flowers & Sons purchase the first Super 22 Columbia machine in the Caribbean that can output over 12,000 blocks per day.
The family continues to invest in property around central George Town, with Clarence Bradley pursuing commercial real estate through Orchid Development. As managing director of Flowers Block, Frank Sr. oversees a move to a new site on Seymour Drive and upgrades to the most modern block machine in the world, capable of producing over 50,000 units per day. He follows in his father's footsteps by being a dedicated husband and father with his wife Eve and their two children Frank Jr. and Dara.
After Injuries from a 30-year running streak which included over a dozen marathons, Frank Sr. learns to swim at the age of 39. He parlays this newfound passion Into the Flowers One Mile Sea Swim. an annual charity event that promotes healthy living for swimmers of any age. Orchid Development commences phase one of Cricket Square, a property that sets new standards In commercial real estate. Two years later the Brasserie Restaurant opens. under the leadership of Clarence Bradley and Lisa Flowers. Building on their founding principle of diversification, Flowers is a trailblazer in the region by expanding into insulated concrete forms (ICF), an innovative alternative that reduces electricity consumption on new construction. FADS procures equipment to service containerized aircrafts, which which paves the way for transatlantic travel to the Cayman Islands.
Cricket Square functions as a community hurricane shelter, while FADS assists in the evacuation of passengers and subsequent arrivals of relief aid. Immediately after the storm, Flowers sets up a free dispensary to give clean drinking water to the public on the very site where Clarence built his first home. For several weeks, block factory crews work around the clock to restore the plant for the rebuilding effort as the Flowers Sea Swim shifts to a more charity-focused event, raising over $100,000 for hurricane relief. Since then, Flowers Sea Swim continues to donate all their annual proceeds to a worthy local charity. Two years after Ivan, Flowers celebrates their 60th anniversary, welcoming Dara Flowers-Burke to be a company director as C.L. Flowers & Sons is rebranded as the Flowers Group. In April of 2007, Clarence Levi Flowers is laid to rest, followed seven years later by his beloved wife, Jen.
Cricket Square continues to revitalize Central George Town as they expand with multiple phases, restaurants and state-of-the-art gym. Flowers Sea Swim is named one of the top ten open water swims in the world, as Frank Sr. becomes the first person in the Caribbean to receive the Max Ritter Award, the highest honor bestowed from USA Swimming. FADS acquires Air Agencies, a former client who was also a pioneer in creating an FBO for private aircrafts and other specialty services. The next generation of the family arrives with Frank Jr's daughter, Sinclair, followed by Dara's children Alexandra and Lucas.
In 2021, Flowers celebrates 75 years with a renovated headquarters and many new projects, continuing a legacy that has been built upon a strong foundation of family values.

The Flowers Group strongly embraces corporate social responsibility, investing in the Cayman Islands community for over 70 years. Since the first concrete block made, we believed that our company is only as strong as the community we serve. Our flagship charity, the Flowers Sea Swim, openly recognized as one of “the top ten ocean swims in the world”, has contributed to a myriad of local charities including Feed Our Future, Meals on Wheels, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Habitat for Humanity and most recently the Cayman Islands Cancer Society and DKMS in partnership to increase regional bone marrow registry donors, contributing to the effort to delete blood cancer.
